Timeline of the Knanaya Catholic Congress of Southern California (KCCSC)

Year

Milestone

1975

Migration from India to Los Angeles began, primarily in the Chatsworth area, later spreading throughout Southern California. The community started organizing socio-religious and cultural activities, including Sunday services at St. John Eudes Catholic Church, Chatsworth, and participating in KALA (Kerala Association of Los Angeles) events.

1983

The Kerala Catholic Association of Los Angeles (KCALA) was established on September 3, under the leadership of President Abraham Niravath, Secretary Jacob Mutholath, and Treasurer Poulose Thekkedath.

1983

Welcomed Most Rev. Dr. Benedict Mar Gregorius, Archbishop of Trivandrum.

1992

Formation of the Knanaya Catholic Congress of Los Angeles (KCCLA) with 32 Knanaya families under the leadership of Fr. Abraham Mutholath.

1994

Initiated the Knanaya Family Camp during the presidency of Sabu Mutholam.

1996

His Excellency Bishop Karottembrayil, Apostolic Delegate for the Syro-Malabar Church in North America, visited Chatsworth and sought KCCLA’s support for establishing the Syro-Malabar Church in the USA. KCCLA assured its full support. The letter submitted to Mar Karottemrayil on August 30, 1996  is available by clicking here. 

1997

Launched the Knanaya Family Night during the presidency of Jacob Mutholath.

2000

Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry visited LA, appealed to support fund rising to start Caritas Cancer Centre. Mr. Cyriac Poovathunkal took leadership to raise Rs. 1,199,000.00 and Dr. Phili Chatham arranged $300,000.00 worth of a Radiation Therapy Machine.

2001

KCCLA formally requested Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath to establish a Knanaya Catholic Mission in Los Angeles.

2002

Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath canonically established St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Mission, appointing Fr. Abraham Mutholath as Mission Director. The first Knanaya Catholic Western Regional Convention was held in San Jose, with Jacob Mutholath serving as KCCNA Western Regional Vice President.

2003

Renamed the organization from KCCLA to KCCSC during the Annual General Body Meeting.

2006

Extended the term for officers and executive committee members from one year to two years.

2009

Hosted the Knanaya Catholic Western Regional Convention in Northridge, Los Angeles, with Mathew Vettuparappurath serving as KCCNA Western Regional Vice President.

2016

Knanaya Golden Age Group formed with Valsa Kollaprambil  Annama Chettiath as  the coordinators. Picnic in San Diago on July 30, 2016.
Knanaya Women's Forum Started.
Kids Club started – Mrs. Sheeba Vadaraparambil & AnithaVelluthara were the coordinators                                                                                                                                                        KCYL started – Mrs. Elizabeth Vazhappalli & Mr. Mathew Vettuparapuram were the Coordinators
