HISTORY IN BRIEF
The migration of Knanaya families to Los Angeles
began in 1975, with pioneers such as Abraham Niravath and Molly leading
the way, followed by other families throughout the late 1970s and early
1980s. Initially, these families participated in broader Malayalee
organizations like the Kerala Association of Los Angeles (KALA),
celebrating cultural events and building community connections. By 1983,
the growing Catholic population led to the formation of the Kerala
Catholic Association of Los Angeles (KCALA), which organized
Syro-Malabar Qurbana, retreats, and other activities, supported by
visiting Syro-Malabar priests. This period was marked by significant
milestones, including a visit by Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios.
In 1992, following encouragement from the Knanaya
Catholic Congress of North America (KCCNA), the Knanaya families in Los
Angeles formed the Knanaya Catholic Congress of Los Angeles (KCCLA)
under the leadership of Fr. Abraham Mutholath. With 51 families
participating, the association was formally established, with Thomas
Paremkala serving as the first President. Despite some opposition from
members of KCALA, KCCLA became the focal point for preserving Knanaya
traditions and faith in the region. It played a key role in advocating
for the establishment of Knanaya mission in Los Angeles.
In 2002, after the formation of the Syro-Malabar
Diocese of Chicago, KCCLA successfully petitioned Bishop Mar Jacob
Angadiath to establish the St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Mission in Los
Angeles, with Fr. Abraham Mutholath as its first Mission Director. Over
time, the community grew, and the organization transitioned into the
Knanaya Catholic Congress of Southern California (KCCSC), reflecting its
broader regional reach. Today, KCCSC continues to serve as a vibrant
cultural and spiritual hub, organizing religious celebrations, family
events, and other activities that uphold the Knanaya Catholic heritage
in Southern California.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
The General Body of KCCSC, in its meeting on November 16, 2024, resolved to launch this website and entrusted Jacob Mutholath with its initiation. Jacob gathered the necessary data, and Fr. Abraham Mutholath developed the first phase of the website. Binish Manumkal and John Joseph Vallipadavil currently serve as the webmasters for the site.
